Dr. Katie Xu is a dual-qualified Orthodontist and Dentist.

 

She obtained her general dentistry degree from the University of Melbourne graduating with first-class honors and receiving numerous scholarships and awards including the Cato Graduate Scholarship and the Des Crack Memorial Prize for the highest mark in Paediatric dentistry and Orthodontics.


Dr. Katie practiced as a general dentist for many years serving the wider Melbourne community before undertaking further study in the competitive 3-year Master's Degree in the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry specializing in Orthodontics at the University of Melbourne. She has presented at numerous national orthodontic conferences and with research publications in the Australian Orthodontic Journal.

Her special interests include early preventative treatment to help the developing adult teeth naturally come into alignment, orthopedic treatment to help reduce the need for dental extractions and jaw surgery in the future. She has completed her Master's Thesis on the management of dental ankylosis and has an in-depth understanding of this condition.

She provides aesthetic orthodontic treatment options including Invisalign, clear aligners, internal braces, and a combination of different treatment approaches. She works collaboratively with your family dentist to provide the best possible smile and facial outcome for you. 

Dr. Katie will offer you treatment options that fit your lifestyle, expectations, and budget.

In your first visit, you will have a comprehensive set of photos and a 3D scan of your teeth. She will assess your facial features, your smile both relaxed and dynamic, and formulate a treatment plan. She will often provide 2-3 different options including comprehensive treatment and also express treatment in those with time limitations. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you like to ensure you are comfortable. A comprehensive orthodontic report will be emailed to you within 2 weeks highlighting her findings, treatment plan, and relevant information.
