Professor Seong-Seng Tan
MDS (Adel), FRACDS, MRACDS(Orth), DPHIL (Oxford)
Prof Tan. obtained his specialty training at the University of Adelaide (MDS) with additional dental degrees (FRACDS, MRACDS (ORTH)) from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Following this, he was awarded a Doctorate (DPHIL) from the University of Oxford, and developed his scientific research techniques alongside Nobel Prize winner Gerald Edelman at Rockefeller University, New York.
On top of being an orthodontist, he also heads a research laboratory on the genetics of brain diseases at the University of Melbourne. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers and is very familiar with the evidence-based practice of dentistry. He is recognized as a Senior Principal Research Fellow with the Australian National Health & Medical Research Council. For his contribution to research in Australia, he was awarded the Amgen Australia Medal (1997) and the Special Achievement Award by the Australian Dental Association Vic Branch (2012).
Prof Tan is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland, and a visiting Professor to the National University of Singapore.
Prof Tan enjoys being able to provide evidence-based treatment for patients of all ages. He is a master of Twin-Block therapy and has successfully treated over 30,000 smiles and counting throughout his long career. He is known in the community his fast treatment times and broad smiles.
In your first visit with Prof Tan, you will be given an explanation of what causes your orthodontic problems, how to solve it, and what kind of orthodontic treatment appliances are available to you.
