Professor Seong-Seng Tan
MDS (Adel), FRACDS, MRACDS(Orth), DPHIL (Oxford)
Prof Tan. obtained his specialty training at the University of Adelaide (MDS) with additional dental degrees (FRACDS, MRACDS (ORTH)) from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Following this, he was awarded a Doctorate (DPHIL) from the University of Oxford, and developed his scientific research techniques alongside Nobel Prize winner Gerald Edelman at Rockefeller University, New York.
On top of being a fantastic orthodontist, he also runs a research laboratory on the genetics of brain diseases at the University of Melbourne! He has published over 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers and is very familiar with the evidence-based practice of dentistry. He is recognised as a Senior Principal Research Fellow with the Australian National Health & Medical Research Council. For his contribution to research in Australia, he was awarded the Amgen Australia Medal (1997) and the Special Achievement Award by the Australian Dental Association Vic Branch (2012).
Prof Tan is also Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland, and a visiting Professor to the National University of Singapore.
Prof Tan likes to start his days with a freezing ocean swim at 5:30 am! When he does get some free time, which is rare, you'll find him spending time with the family, and practicing his golf swings.
